Today we're going to discuss the rules about when to italicize things such as media titles, foreign expressions, et cetera, according to the GoTranscript guidelines. In the last test, you may have noticed a lot of references to a movie called office space. We do that a lot in these tests, because part of being a good transcriber, and perhaps later, an editor is being able to do research. Accuracy is nice, but proper formatting is what sets us apart from any cheap AI subtitling program. Let's face it, nine out of 10 applicants never bothered to look at the guidelines for any transcription company they're applying to, which IMHO is a big mistake. Anyway, office space is today considered a classic comedy, and it may well have inspired Ricky Gervais to create his equally brilliant BBC sitcom.

The office later made into a somewhat less brilliant but still very funny US version starring Steve Carell. While the two shows aren't directly connected, it's fair to describe them as complimentary, as well as worthy of being complimented. The nice thing about the office is that people in many countries around the world relate to the basic scenario, a group of more or less normal and intelligent people forced by economic necessity to work for a boss who is definitely not as smart or socially adept as they are. How they manage to get around their boss and make it through each day is what makes it funny, as well as relatable. A series like friends, on the other hand, may relate to a lot of people, but in some ways. I watched an episode of Friends the other day. And so while they thought some video for months, I never really felt engaged in the basic premise.

I've never shared an apartment with more than one person. So it didn't really make me feel like I was part of that. Of course, I loved Three's Company back in the 70s. But that was mainly because John Ritter was so good looking. Anyway, remember that at least 1/3 of the test is getting the formatting right. So please keep the guidelines open in front of you while you're working. And as the song says, you might just make it after all, bonus points if you can tell me which sitcom that song is from. However, please note that getting these bonus questions, right doesn't mean you'll automatically be accepted. You still have to do the rest of the formatting right. It may make a difference though. So go ahead and write your best guess after this paragraph. And yes, you do have to type this paragraph. Now make sure to italicized your media titles properly.
