Like other transcription companies, GoTranscript has specific guidelines for how our transcripts should be formatted. However, many customers have special formatting requirements that supersede our guidelines. Our rule is that the customers formatting will always take precedence over the GoTranscript style. Sometimes their formatting requirements will will be that they want their Speaker Labels in all caps rather than initial caps. One way our transcribers have found to fulfill that requirement is to type their transcript as usual, then do a search and replace of the Speaker Labels to turn them into capital letters. Because of that, it's very important that you know how to do that, how to search and replace things in your transcript. This transcript is going to contain an instruction in the in the next to the last paragraph, something that you are supposed to search and replace. It may be a word or a phrase, you will have to pay attention and listen to the audio.
So you will hear and understand that instruction. If you don't follow it exactly, your application will be rejected. Even if you get everything I say transcribed to the letter exactly. This may seem a bit arbitrary. But keep in mind that we have 1000s of customers at least 1500 transcript requests every day. So we need transcribers who will pay attention to all instructions provided. Sometimes the transcribers complain that the customer's requirements are arbitrary, vague or contradictory. Sadly, that's true too many times. We do feel sorry for our transcribers when that happens, and we'll try to give them more precise information when we can. However, transcribers are advised that if the requirements are too difficult for them to follow, they are better off rejecting the job completely, rather than trying to do it and risking a low grade. transcribers work hard we know and we don't like to make things any more difficult for them than we have to.
However, this is the type of business that is geared towards pleasing our customers and clients. So it's important to do your best to follow all the instructions, no matter how strange they may seem. To prove it. Here's the special instruction I told you about in the third paragraph. First, start a new paragraph right after this sentence. Second, either go back to the beginning of your transcript, and or highlight and select all the text. Now, I want you to search for every instance of the word transcriber and replace it with the phrase, awesome worker. The only place that the original word should still appear is in the previous sentence, and it should be in quotation marks. If you follow that instruction, pat yourself on the back and treat yourself to a latte. You've earned it. Oh, and even though we normally tell you not to use exclamation points, please put an exclamation point after the word it in the previous sentence, as well as the last word in the next sentence.
