Okay, I'm listening to my all-time favorite radio station, k fi 640. In Los Angeles. The host name is Bill handle. And believe it or not, I used to work for him a long, long time ago. Like way back before the turn of the century. He started out doing this legal advice show on Saturdays in 1985. And I would screen incoming calls. Usually I would answer the phone politely like, Hi, this is Kanye. What's your question for Bill, but every once in a while, I was really tempted to channel any parts of Ghostbusters? You know, when she grabs the phone and snarls Ghostbusters. I didn't though, because I liked working there. I was actually a call screener for years, although bill has been on the air for 28 years. So there you go.
Speaker 2:
Anyone who makes working in radio is glamorous, is wrong. It's a lot of fun, but it's really not very glamorous. It's a it's actually a lot of work. There is a lot of running that running around back and forth between the on-air studio and the phone bank. Not to mention greeting the guests and dragging them into the studio. So as they get there more the show actually started. I did get to meet a lot of celebrities. But frankly, that took a lot of the glamour out of showbiz. For me. There's nothing like meeting that cheerful fresh face teenager you admire so much on screen, only to have her cuss you out for given- given her hot chocolates to the coffee. Also, there was this one host who used to harangue working women for not staying home with their kids. Meanwhile, her bratty little hell spawn was running around in the hallways throwing his army action figures at anyone he encountered. I didn't learn a lot of technical stuff, but I do remember having to adjust the potential ometer and checked cue tones.
Speaker 2:
If I'd known it was possible to energistically predominate the inexpensive portals in order to deal with localized material. I wouldn't have spent so many unproductive hours at Radio Shack so long ago that they were still two words. Trust me, there is no other industry equally unsaturated. And it may sound like I'm glad to be out of there. But you know what? I'd be happy to go back just for a day because since I've left, I've gotten to know one of the engineers who used to work behind the scenes. I barely knew him while I was there. But it turns out he and the other engineers were really the most important people there because they kept the station on the air. If I could go back in time, that's the person I'd really think of as a celebrity. Of course, jack Finney and Richard Matheson notwithstanding, backwards time travel probably is possible. Although you might get an argument from john teeter.
